Harley Davidson- That’s what started
it all for me. The fascination that held me then still does to this day.
It started back when I was
in the 6th grade and a local motorcycle club took up residence in our
neighborhood. My friends and I would stop in front of their garage on
the way home from school and watch in fascination as they would bend
and twist steel rods with torches and hammers. And there in front of
it was the sleek flaked out choppers with molded tanks and fenders and
high sissy bars. I was hooked and at age 14; started my 3rd year Welding
course at Tech Memorial High School. For a graduation present I bought
my first Harley, a 1955 panhead and started my own customizing. During
this time I worked in local industry at General Electric building locomotive
subassemblies at Zurn Energy Division building boilers at Autoclare Engineers
welding and machining exotic metals for high pressure research equipment.
I also worked for awhile at Metro Machine our local shipyard. I have
been A.S.M.E code certified on many of these jobs. But through it all
my love of Harleys remained. I was always making parts for my self and
my friends so when I was asked to do some work at the Engine Company
it was like a dream come true, working at something I love.
